Thousands flock to The World Marmalade Festival 2008

The Marmalade festivalTHREE thousand people flocked to this year’s World Marmalade Festival from 7 – 10 February.

Sponsored by Carr's Milling Industries – the parent company of Carrs Breadmaker – the four-day event at Dalemain Country House, near Ullswater attracted worldwide media coverage.

More than 400 entries were received into the actual marmalade competition (which seeks to find the purest blend) with jars even coming in from as far away as Japan and Canada.

Caroline Dale, marketing manager for Carrs Breadmaker, said:

"It was a hugely enjoyable event and one that both Carrs Breadmaker and Carr’s Milling Industries were delighted to support."

Jane McCosh from Dalemain said:

"I cannot thank Carr’s Milling Industries and Carrs Breadmaker enough, not only for their financial support but for their untiring enthusiasm, ideas and innovative competitions that helped to generate fantastic publicity in the run-up to, during and after the festival."

Elizabeth Field, a food writer from the United States, who visited the Carrs Breadmaker stand, said:

"I so enjoyed the Marmalade Festival; it was like going into a total Marmalade World. I tried telling some of my friends about it - the ladies in the white coats from the WI; the demonstrations; the hundreds of jars of marmalade and the Paddington Bear sandwich filling competition but it was hard, I think, for them to really get it. Just so English, I guess!"
