The Miller’s Way joins the Big 1000 ...

Scenery along The Millwers WayTHE Miller’s Way - created to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Carr’s Flour - has been added to a prestigious list of the UK’s best loved cross country walks.

It is the latest trail to be recognised by the Long Distance Walker’s Association (LDWA) and included on its website that details the country’s favourite 1000 routes.

The 51-mile low-level walk from Kendal to Carlisle is now in the fine company of the Anglesey Coast Path, Sir Walter Scott Way, Limestone Loop, Apostles Walk, Sweet Pea Challenge Walk and Grand Union Canal Walk.

John Sparshatt, a member of the LDWA Long Distance Paths Team, said The Miller’s Way is a valuable addition to their database of walks.

"It is all the more fascinating because of its industrial and Quaker roots," he said.

“The guide book produced by Carrs Breadmaker also brings history to life which will add interest to those walking the route,” he said.

Scenery along The Millwers WayThe LDWA is a national association of people interested in walking long distances in rural, mountainous or moorland areas.

The Miller’s Way has been given its own page on the website www.ldwa.org.uk with a link to our Carrs Breadmaker website for people wishing to find out more about its origins.

Caroline Dale, marketing manager of Carrs Breadmaker, said:

“We are thrilled that in just a couple of years The Miller’s Way has established itself as a route worthy of national endorsement by the respected LWDA.

“Our guide books have sold incredibly well and we have had some very complimentary letters from walkers who have completed either sections of the walk or the entire length.

“Walkers may like to know that we are now investigating the possibility of creating an extension to The Miller’s Way from Carlisle to our flour mill at Silloth on the west coast of Cumbria.”
