Silloth Mill enjoys a Working Lunch
THE Cumbrian flour mill where Carrs Breadmaker flour is produced was the star of BBC2’s Working Lunch.
Roving reporter Rob Pittam returned to the state-of-the-art Silloth plant five years after his last visit which reported on the popularity of breadmaking at home.
For the latest programme he focussed on the challenges posed to millers by the rising international costs of wheat due to poor harvests, increased global demand and the surge in bio-fuels.
Managing Director Duncan Monroe [pictured on right being interviewed by Rob Pittam] gave Working Lunch a tour of the mill including the new brown flour blending plant.
He explained how the company had responded to soaring costs of wheat and introduced a new flour blend – Malty Seeded – to Working Lunch viewers.
“Working Lunch is always welcome at our mill,” said Mr Monroe. “It has a relaxed informative manner and is very supportive and understanding about the businesses that it puts in the spotlight.
“We look forward to welcoming back Working Lunch in 2013!”
